Vega DK

The Vega DK is an extremely hard wet tyre, mainly used for prokart endurance racing. It is also an extremely durable tire with probably too little grip to be regarded a proper rain tire at all, regardless of its profile.

The Vega DK used to be the mandatory wet tire for the Dutch National prokart endurance championship "Kings of Karting" up until (and including) the 2004 season. It was paired with the Vega XLL slick tire. For 2005, a move to the Maxxis WT4 was made, not to the amusement of a company that acted as Vega importer for The Netherlands, but also owned a number of the circuits where the championship was held. The championship was banned from using the Berghem circuit during the 2005 season as a result.

The Vega DK enjoys legendary status at some indoor kart tracks. It was of such hard compound that it could be used as an alternative to slick tires. Due to the wet profile these tires tend to warm up faster than slicks, making inexperienced hire kart drivers spin less often in the first lap, especially on cold days. This reduces the workload and danger for track personnel. The tire is of such hardness that indoor karts on even a dry and warm track will not destroy them. They remain usable for sometimes months on end. Even after all the profile is gone there is enough meat to cut another layer of profile and keep using them for another lifetime.

Hardness: unknown, but extremely hard
