- Oil Seals are used to keep fuel/air inside the engine, allow the crankcase to pressurise properly and stop unwanted air entering the engine causing a lean mixture and possible engine failure.
- Typical Kart Oil Seal
- Oil Seals come in various sizes
- Most engines now use double lip Teflon seals with an assist spring behind the seal lip.
- Make sure when fitting these you coat the seal lips with a multi-purpose grease as this greatly improves lifespan.
- Common signs that oil seals are worn are hard to adjust carburation or pressure leaks when pressure testing and engine
- Due to being rubber based they have a limited lifetime once fitted to an engine and for the low cost should be replaced regularly, especially if left to stand for some time.
