Maxxis HG1

The Maxxis HG1 is a hard slick tyre, mainly used for club, recreational and endurance racing.

The side wall markings of the HG1 are normally white, but also some bright green ones exist. These green HG1's are exactly the same compound and construction as the white ones, but part of a batch that was made specifically for the Dutch National prokart endurance championship "Kings of Karting", where the green HG1 was the mandatory tire for the 2005 season. It was not a popular choice, since the HG1 did not have the anticipated durability in situations where many karts on the same tire are building up rubber on the racing line. An in-season test in 2004 did not reveal these issues, since all other karts at the time were still using the orange Vega XLL, that was mandatory up until (and including) 2004. However, in 2005, when everyone used the same HG1's, extreme wear was observed (for an endurance tire, which is not the HG1's intended use). During the 6 hour 2005 Spa-Francorchamps event, many teams had their HG1 tires fall apart mid-race and the Raceway Venray "24 Hours of The Netherlands" event saw some teams using up to 7 sets just to finish the race. After 1 year the HG1 was already abandoned in favor of the Maxxis Enduro.

The bright green HG1's still show up from time to time, but may not be a good buy given the age.
